Published August 21, 2014

In collaboration with LifeShare Blood Centers, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Medical Laboratory Science program will sponsor a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 25-28, in the Warhawk circle next to the 51蹤獲 Library.

51蹤獲 traditionally offers students the opportunity to give blood on campus during the fall semester, according to Ashley White, Donor Recruiter for LifeShare Blood Centers. Its a long-standing 30-year tradition that has resulted in thousands of blood units for local patients and many, many lives saved.

According to LifeShare, about 1-in-7 people entering a hospital need blood. One blood donationapproximately one pint of bloodcan save up to three lives.

Giving blood is safe, simple and it saves lives, said Phillip Thomas, director of LifeShare Blood Center in Monroe. It is an easy way to help someone else that doesnt require a lot of time or effort. Donating blood benefits the blood donor too. Each donor receives a total cholesterol screen among other health screenings to help them monitor their personal health and wellness.

Each donor will receive a t-shirt after donating.
