51 Choral and The Sound of Today host Jambalaya Bowl and Luck of the Irish Raffle Feb. 23

From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Choral Department and The Sound of Today Marching Band will partner to host a Jambalaya Bowl and Luck of the Irish Raffle at Enoch’s Irish Pub & Café.

All proceeds from the event will fund the 51 Marching Band and the Choral Department’s upcoming trip to Ireland.

Jambalaya will be sold for $5 a serving.

The raffle tickets will cost $2 for one or $5 for three and can be purchased either at Enoch’s or at the 51 VAPA Office in Biedenharn Hall 105.

Nearly 40 students from the band and choir will take the trip and spend a week overseas.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has invited them to march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade and to give a concert in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. They will also perform on the steps of City Hall in Limerick, Ireland.

One of the chaperones on the trip will be Dr. Jason Rinehart, assistant professor of Music at 51.

He said, “We try to take a trip every four years somewhere internationally to give our students that overall experience of culture and music and life outside of Louisiana. We went to Ireland back in 2009, and the students who went are still talking about the trip and how much fun they had.”

Prizes at the event will include 51 apparel, a RAIN salon certificate, tickets to Strauss Theater, tickets to 51’s production of “Guys & Dolls,” CDs from The Chieftains and Celtic Woman, and more.

Attendance at Enoch’s is limited to persons over 21, but carryout jambalaya will be available.

Enoch’s is located at 507 Louisville Avenue in Monroe.
